Having to wake up early and do homework every night isn’t fun for anyone, but assemblies, sports, senior ditch day and so much more are worth the hassle.
Staying a year, or even a semester, longer can give students a lot more time to mature and prepare themselves for the real world and what they have to face once they leave high school.
Your mommy won’t be around to be at your beck and call, make you food and drive you around. Your daddy won’t be yelling at you to keep your grades up. There are so many things that kids take for granted that they’ll wish they had back after they graduate and leave home.
A lot of graduates can’t keep up when “college life” takes over. Students want to take allthey can from their new freedom of not living at home anymore. The partying gets to be
too much, the grades start to fall and soon enough they’re not in college anymore. A lot of money, which probably came from their parents, is flushed down the toilet because someone wasn’t mature enough to stick it out.
High school is something that is offered for free, and it’s not just boring teachers and learning. There are activities that students should be a part of to have fun and enjoy the last year or so of their time in school. A teen could be spending senior ditch day alone or waiting for all the kids her age to get out of school. A teen could be used to being the “big dog” on campus but now has no friends to hang out with, so he sits alone in his brand new apartment.
The high school experience is something that’s always going to be a part of someone’s memories. It’s sad to see that some people want to cut those memories short.
