Cheap Dates 4 Dummies
Enjoy your nights out without blowing your budget
By Alexa Catalfamo,
Durango HS
In order to make any date
successful on the night of a
school dance you need to have
your evening well thought out
in advance.
When making plans, setting
a budget can play a big role
in deciding what you’ll end
up doing. But just because
you want to make your night
special -- whether to impress
your date or just have fun
-- doesn’t mean you have to
round up a bunch of cash.
One alternative to spending
a lot of money on the night of
a dance is going places where
you or your friends have
connections.
“I have money, I just don’t
like to spend it!” says senior
Dakota Williams. “I usually
go with friends who got the
hookups!”
If you decide to stick to
the typical dinner, dance and
pictures activity plan, however, there are many
cheap places to go and things to do that will
either secure a second date or make your night
one to remember while still keeping a reasonable
budget.
As far as dinner goes, selecting an alternative
to such expensive places such as The Cheesecake
Factory and P.F. Chang’s is crucial. The Olive
Garden, Applebee’s, Macaroni Grill and Claim
Jumper are some, among many, of the cheaper but still tasty places you and your date can dine.
If you’re going to plan dinner for strictly
you and your significant other -- i.e. without the
crowd of friends -- something special to consider
might be making a homemade dinner and
enjoying it in a park with candles or something
along those romantic lines.
“We went and we grabbed a slice of pizza and
we ended up having a lot of fun!” says senior
Jennifer Yalda.
If you’re planning
to take pictures on the
night of a dance, you
might want to consider
side places such as
Photomania for pictures
instead of your typical
“at the dance” photos,
which can get a little
pricey.
“I personally feel
that the pictures taken at
Photomania are just as
good if not better than
the pictures taken at
the dance,” says senior
Amanda Crandall.
Next on the agenda is finding a fun, not too
expensive activity to
do post dance.
Hotel parties,
party buses and fancy
Vegas shows can
quickly take a dip
into your wallet. So
consider alternatives
to those fancy afterdance
activities such
as bowling, drive-in
movies and exploring
the Vegas strip.
Making plans
for dances such as
Homecoming, Sadies
and Prom really ends
up depending on what
kind of person you
are, what grade you’re
in and who you’ll be
going with.
“It’s my senior
year, so maybe I’ll
throw in an extra
few bucks,” jokes
Williams.
If dressing up and dancing the night away isn’t your fancy, you can
always make your night a little more casual too.
Make sure you feel comfortable with the
person you ask, if you plan on taking someone
to the dance, and don’t stress too much on
impressing them.
The important thing to remember is that it’s
YOUR night. You want to plan that night so it’s
something you’ll enjoy and always remember.
More than likely, you’ll end up having a
great time no matter what you choose to do,
and you’ll be able to make that special night to
remember while knowing you didn’t go broke in
the process.
